PURPOSE:To provide carbon staple fiber assembly easy to handle, good in workability such as being readily dispersible in its mixing with a resin, and causing virtually no gas generation even if heated at high temperatures in resin molding in combination therewith leading to giving forms of low void content and to provide the subject composition capable of giving fiber-reinforced resin forms of void content as low as possible with excellent mechanical properties. CONSTITUTION:The objective carbon staple fiber assembly can be obtained by carbonizing, in an inert atmosphere at temperatures between 400 deg.C and 1500 deg.C, a carbon staple fiber assembly which has been put to coherence, using a sizing agent, of a carbon staple fiber assembly composed of >=90wt.% of carbon staple fibers and the rest consisting virtually of a resin-carbonized product and also characterized by being <=0.5% in the weight loss rate in an inert gas atmosphere at 400 deg.C. The objective fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composition is characterized by comprising W 100 pts.wt. of a thermoplastic resin and 1-50 pts.wt. of the carbon staple fiber assembly A. |
