PURPOSE:To eliminate the trouble by the formation of solidified matter on the wall surfaces of stationary gates and to extend the life of the stationary gates in continuous casting of a twin drum type for a thin sheet by installing the fulcrums for oscillating the two stationary gates below the neutral point of drums. CONSTITUTION:The stationary gates 2, 2' each consisting of a refractory material are pressed to both side faces of the water-cooled casting drums 1, 1' and a molten metal 4 is poured into the space formed of the drums 1, 1' and the gates 2, 2'. An ingot 3 is drawn by pinch rolls 6 and guide rolls 7. The fulcrums 8 for oscillating the gates 2, 2' are installed below the neutral point of the drums 1, 1' and the ingot is continuously cast while the gates 2, 2' are oscillated at a working point 9. The trouble by the formation of the solidified matter on the wall surfaces of the stationary gates is thereby eliminated and the stable continuous casting is made possible. The life of the stationary gates is remarkably extended. |
