PURPOSE:To impart the function of absorbing a shock added to an air bag unit and the function as a knee protector for protecting the knee part of a passenger to the air bag unit to be received and fixed in the opening part of an instrument panel. CONSTITUTION:An air bag unit 5 has a cylindrical part 7a integrally formed with a receiving frame 7 formed of a hard material, an air bag body 9 received in the folded state in the cylindrical part 7a, an inflator 11, and a shock absorbing member 13 arranged in the position covering the surface of the side part of the cylindrical part 7a and the surface on a vehicle chamber N side. On the shock absorbing member 13, further, a thickened part 13 a for easing a shock added to an instrument panel from the vehicle chamber side and a thickened part 13b for absorbing and easing a shock to the knee part of a passenger at colliding with the knee part are formed. |
