PURPOSE:To constitute a passive type vibration damping structure, and to effectively restrain oscillation of the structure by the wind, by setting the damping coefficient of a damping device provided to a vibration proof structure in a frame composed of columns and beams, in a suitable range. CONSTITUTION:Braces 4 and damping devices 10 as vibration proof elements are locally provided in a frame of a multistoried building 1 composed of columns 2, beams 3 and the like so as to absorb vibration energy from the multistoried building 1 through that parts. The damping device 10 has a characteristic in which the relationship between speed and load which are produced therein becomes nearly linear, and its damping coefficient is set in a range such as ch<c<cr, where ch is a damping coefficient which exhibits a maximum value of the primary damping coefficient h1 when the analysis of the characteristic value of the structure is carried out by changing the damping coefficient (c), and cr is a damping coefficient giving a value with which the primary inherent period T1 becomes short so that the vibration is substantially suppressed. |
