PURPOSE:To obtain a promoter for hepatic regeneration capable of increasing hepatic cells and promoting the regeneration of the liver. CONSTITUTION:The objective promoter for hepatic regeneration comprises alanine and/or glutamine in an effective amount as an essential ingredient. When a mixture of the alanine with the glutamine is used, the weight ratio thereof is preferably (1/0.1) to (1/10). In this case, they may be contained as a di- to a tripeptide. The daily dose for an adult is >=1g in the total amount of the amino acids. In order to ensure promoting effects on the hepatic regeneration, this promoter is preferably continuously administered at an interval of, e.g. 3hr or 6hr. Furthermore, since the amino acids are respectively approved as foods, there is no possibility of exhibiting toxicity, especially acute toxicity. The promoter for the hepatic regeneration has the effects and remarkable amelioration of hepatopathy can be expected, wide utilization such as a therapeutic agent for fulminant hepatitis, an ameliorant for viral hepatopathy, a therapeutic agent or a preventing agent for hepatopathy due to medicines such as anticancer agents or promotion of hepatic regeneration after the operation of the liver such as liver transplantation, induction of renal regeneration, etc.
