PURPOSE:To facilitate driving operations by automatically optimizing the timing of operation of an engine brake on downgrades, thereby reducing the number of times that a foot brake is operated. CONSTITUTION:Whether or not the shift position of an automatic transmission 3, 4, 5 is set to a low gear 3 at which an engine brake is operated is determined according to the relationship between a parameter and a threshold both of which are used to determine whether or not the low gear 3 is selected. The threshold is set to a value corresponding to a parameter regarding the frictional resistance of a road. |
