PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device which is strong to the light leaking from the periphery, is cleaned in the cutting shape of substrates and is improved in display quality and reliability by forming a light shielding layer outward from the inner side of sealing patterns. CONSTITUTION:The light shielding film BM is provided on an upper transparent glass substrate SUB 2 side in such a manner that external light is not made incident on an (i) type semiconductor device AS to be used as a channel forming region. This light shielding film BM is formed of, for example, an aluminum film, chromium film, etc., having a high property to shield the light. The light shielding film BM is formed to a picture frame-shaped pattern in the peripheral part and this pattern is formed continuously with the pattern of a matrix part provided with plural apertures in the form of dots. The light shielding film BM in the peripheral part is extended to the outer side of the sealing part SL to prevent the entering of the leak light, such as reflected light, occurring in a packaging machine, such as personal computer, into the matrix part. On the other hand, this light shielding film BM is detained to the inner side from the edge of the substrate SUB 2 and is formed to avoid the cutting region of the substrate SUB 2. |
