The invention relates to a support for a drawing in plate form, which is noteworthy in that it is formed by the association of an opaque substrate and of a thin metallic covering layer, preferably made from copper, deposited on at least one of its faces and in which the said drawing is reproduced by printing using the photosensitisation technique so as to cause the appearance, through the hollows, of the contrasts caused by reflection on the surface of the abovementioned opaque substrate. The invention also relates to a method for reproducing drawings by printing on a support in plate form, which consists: in a first so-called "preparation" stage, in soaking the said support in a resin bath, - in a second so-called "film-making" stage, in making up a film of the drawing to be reproduced and in applying it to the apparent surface of the metallic coating of the support, - in a third so-called "exposure" stage, in subjecting the said film to ultraviolet rays in order to obtain softening of the resin not protected by certain parts of the film, - in a fourth so-called "developing" stage, in soaking the abovementioned support in a bath of a suitable solution which has the effect of removing the softened resin, - in a fifth so-called "engraving" stage, in soaking the abovementioned support in a bath of a suitable solution in order to partially eliminate the metallic coating at those exposed locations which are not protected by the resin, so as to cause the appearance, in the said hollows, of the opaque coating of the underlying substrate.
