PURPOSE:To automatically adjust current of a light emitting element and the like used to discriminate a paper money. CONSTITUTION:The entire resistance values of the resistors that are in series with a light emitting element 1 are changed by a microcomputer 01 in an adjustment mode by changing combination of the port output of an output port 5 for turning transistors 6A-6D ON, and the current of the element 1 is thus changed. The quantity of light of the emitting element 1 is compared with a reference 10 by a comparator 9 through a light receiving element 2, an amplifier 3, and an A/D converter 4 of the microcomputer 01. The port output value of the output port 5 in which difference between the output value of the A/D converter 4 and the reference 10 is of minimum level, is stored in a non-volatile memory 11, while normal operation of discriminating paper money is carried out by the current of the light emitting element 1 by the port output value at the time. |
