PURPOSE:To facilitate the selection of homonyms and to produce the documents with high efficiency by providing a means which displays the meaning corresponding to the converted KANJI (Chinese character) or compound word of KANJI. CONSTITUTION:When the KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters are inputted and a conversion key is pushed by a user, a character conversion means 3 refers to an internal dictionary to display the first KANJI of compound word of KANJI to be converted on the screen by a display means 2. The user pushes again the conversion key if the displayed KANJI or compound word of KANJI is not correct. Thus the means 3 displays the second KANJI or compound word of KANJI to be converted on the screen by the means 2. Then the user moves a cirsor on the screen to the KANJI or compound word of KANJI whose meaning is wanted among those displayed candidates and then pushes a HELP key. Thus a meaning retrieving means 4 retrieves a meaning dictionary 5 to acquire the meaning corresponding to the KANJI or compound word of KANJI and displays this acquired meaning on the screen by the means 2. |
