PURPOSE:To provide a nickel electrode having large density for discharge capacity. CONSTITUTION:A nickel electrode is manufactured according to the following requirements (A) to (F); (A) A fibrous nickel porous material having a void ratio between 90vol% and 98vol% is used as an electrode base substance. (B) Nickel hydroxide as an active material has a mean grain size between 3mum and 25mum, and 2wt.% to 10wt.% of cadmium or zinc, and 0.5wt.% to 15wt.% of cobalt are contained in the grains. (C) Nickel powder having a mean grain size between 0.5mum and 3mum is used as an conductive assistant (i). (D) Metal powder other than nickel and having a mean grain size between 0.5mum and 3mum is used as a conductive assistant (ii). (E) The total content of the assistants (i) and (ii) is 5 weight parts to 20 weight parts for 100 weight parts of nickel hydroxide, and a ratio of the assistant (i) to the assistant (ii) is kept within the range of 0 to 2. (F) The electrode base substance after charged with the active material is subjected to a process of alkaline immersion and heating. |
