PURPOSE: To improve the average data through-put of data compression engine for a dictionary base and to increase dictionary resetting operation speed. CONSTITUTION: A DICT-VALID field in a static RAM 16 is set up to an N-bit field and a dictionary resetting optimizer 12 includes a counter 20 for generating an N-bit DICT-NUMBER field 22. During the period of data compression/ compression release operation after reset, a DCT-VALID field on a certain dictionary storing position is compared with a current DICT-NUMBER (1), and when both the contents are equal, a DICT-ENTRY field on the storing position is regarded as a valid field, and when both the values are not equal, new compression data are rewritten and the DICT-VALID field is reset to the same value as the current DICT-NUMBER (1). The contents of the counter 20 are increased in each reset and a new DICT-NUMBER (2) is provided. |
