PURPOSE:To easily improve the balance between characters by adjusting the spacing between the characters in consideration of the shapes of the characters. CONSTITUTION:In a character data storage device 4, character patterns to be developed and character spacing adjustment points based upon a constant angle by the character patterns are registered upper and lower, and right and left. When the character is printed or displayed under control over an inter- character pitch by the character pattern development controller 2 of the device for printing or displaying the characters, the coordinate values of the right upper adjustment point of a last developed character and the left lower adjustment point of the character to be developed or the right lower adjustment point of the last developed character and the left upper adjustment point of the character to be developed which are perpendicular to the developing direction are compared with each other to judge whether or not the character spacing can be adjusted. When it is judged that the adjustment can be done, an adjustment value is determined according to the angle used to find the adjustment points for the adjustment and the adjustment position information used for the judgement to adjust the character spacing. |
