PURPOSE:To provide a picture element interpolation device which generates the interpolation picture element of a digital video signal and is capable of smoothly reproducing the oblique boundary line of a picture. CONSTITUTION:The picture element interpolation device is composed of a means 11 extracting a picture element block composed of four picture elements existing around the notice picture element of input data, a means 2 calculating a threshold from the four picture elements, means (12 to 15, 23, 24) determining data other than the maximum value and the minimum value of the picture element block, a means 20 binarizing each picture element of the picture element block based on the threshold, a pattern table 22 setting the interpolation direction for all the combinations of picture elements array which is preliminarily prepared and is obtained by binarization, a means 21 determining the direction of the interpolation reference picture by collating the binarized pattern and the pattern table 22, a means 25 selecting interpolation data in accordance with the output of the means 21 and a means 3 calculating the interpolation picture element value from the selected interpolation data. |
