摘要
1301743 Stapling fibres EASTMAN KODAK CO 23 Jan 1970 [27 Jan 1969] 3326/70 Heading D1F Apparatus for cutting elongated material into shorter lengths, e.g. stapling filamentary, crimped tow, comprises a cutter assembly having knife blades circumferentially arranged and spaced apart with the knife edges facing outwardly, e.g. as described in Specification 1204363, and a guiding member which revolves around the assembly for wrapping the material onto the knife edges which sever the material into adjustably uniform or irregular or different lengths. Optionally a revolving roller transmits pressure to the innermost-layer of wrapped material to force it inwardly of the knife edges. As shown, tow 18 passes through a ring guide 68, partly around a freely rotatable spool guide 16 adjustably positioned and carried on a rotating ring gear 14, thence into the space between parallel discs (not shown) of a cutter assembly 12 wherein it is anchored and then wrapped (with a low imparted twist) around a stationary profile defined by the cutting edges 34 of knife blades 32. The position of a pressure roller 20, also movable with the ring gear, in relation to theblades 32 is adjusted by rocking levers 52 by means of a manually-operated worm 55 and worm-wheel 53 mechanism. The spool 16 may be replaced by an eye bolt. The assembly 12 and ring gear 14 may both be rotated provided the relative movement therebetween ensures wrapping of the material around the blades. The gear 14 may be rotated, in one direction or the other, by a motor 24 through a driving pinion 22 or the gear teeth may be replaced by a V-groove for cooperation with a driving belt. The ring may be replaced by a conveyor mechanism dependent on the configuration of the profile offered by blades 32.
