The book stack (5) to be cut on three sides is aligned for cutting at the work station and clamped under a patten (23) on the end of a ram (19) with linear drive (20). Attached to the ram is a linear guideway (24) which moves in linear roller bearing units (25) fixed to the machine frame (1). Together the guideway (24) and roller bearing units (25) form a linear roller bearing guideway system and rotational constraint for the ram. The linear roller bearing units (25) can be adjusted to eliminate play in the guideway system. ADVANTAGE - Reduced machine wear and greater system stiffness.
