A magnetic disc recording system for data stacks discs with separating gaps that allow read/write heads to be moved to different track locations. Heads are mounted at the end of leaf spring arms (73) supported in pairs on monitoring blocks (70). The two spring carrier arms are sandwiched at one end between a main arm (67) and a disc shaped fixing element (77). This has a projecting stud section (77b) that fits in the hole. A steel ball (100) is pressed into the hole to deform the stud (77b) and produce a retaining section. USE/ADVANTAGE - Secure fixing with reduced gap between magnetic discs.
