The tachograph has a mounting plate (2) which supports a pair of guide rails (4) on which slides a toothed rack (5) which is engaged by a pinion to transmit motion to the rack (5) in conformity with the required parameters e.g. speed and travel duration. Between the guide rails (4) the pivoted/sliding link assembly (15,16) attached to a rack plate (22) is constrained by the tension spring (20) such that the common pivot (B) is impelled vertically upwards. The link (16) carries a cranked arm (18) to which is attached a short stylus (19) which is thus held in contact with the recording charts rotated by a clock mechanism in a plane parallel to the baseplate (2). USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides short and compact stylus assembly enabling axial dimension of instrument to be reduced. Height of stylus point is self-adjusting due to spring to match variable stack thickness of recording charts.
