The present invention relates to the use of a preparation to prevent skin coloration by dyes during hair dyeing containing a combination of (A) 27 to 50 wt % polyethylene glycol with a mean molecular weight of 2700 to 7500; (B) 7 to 14 wt % hydrated castor oil oxethylated with 40 to 60 mol ethylene oxide; (C) 28 to 42 wt % glycerine and/or ethyl hexane diol and/or polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 100 to 300; and (D) 0 to 18 wt % water, novel skin protection agents eminently suitable for preventing skin coloration during hair dyeing and a process for dyeing hair using this preparation or this skin protecting agent.
