<p>An endoscopic surgical instrument (2; 602) includes an elongate body (4; 604, 630) with an end-effect element, such as jaws (26, 28; 425, 426; 608, 610), movably mounted to the distal end of the body. A jaw driver assembly (14; 606) includes a user-manipulatable thumb and finger loops (16, 18; 616, 618) pivotally mounted to the base (6, 622) of the body and a jaw driver assembly (42, 40, 32; 244, 246, 232, 258, 280; 624, 660) coupling the thumb and finger loops to the jaws. The jaws are secured to a removable tip assembly (10; 607) which is rotated about the axis (22; 614) of the instrument by the linear actuation of a rotary actuator trigger (78; 626) coupled to the tip assembly by a rotatable tube (8; 630) through a spiral groove (90; 632) formed in the tube. The instrument can be configured to telescope (401-437), to supply suture material (93) through the interior of the body to the tip assembly, and to allow the user to selectively prevent the telescoping of the instrument or the rotation of the tip assembly.</p> |
