The grinding wheel (3) and polishing wheel (4) are of equal diameter and mounted side-by-side on a common rotating spindle (7). The needle (20) is clamped in a chuck (6) on a slide (5) which is traversable in the direction (X) parallel to the grinding spindle axis and in the direction (Y) normal to the spindle axis. Computer controlled motors drive the slide (5) in the two axes of motion and provide automatic control of the grinding and polishing cycle. The point angle and radius are varied by adjustment of the Y-axis motion and the angle of tilt of the slide (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - Exact needle point shape and high quality can be automatically and consistently produced without need for high manual skill.
