Prodn. of a biologically active spatial form (I) of a protein from a biologically inactive form (II) is effected by (a) converting the protein into random coil form by dissolving it in the presence of a denaturing agent, and (b) passing the soln. through a molecular sieve contg. a liq. medium in which the protein can adopt form (I). The molecular sieve is selected to allow permeation of the denaturing agent but not the protein.
