The mixer tap has a thermostat (3) with an associated temp. selector controlling a sliding valve element (30) displaced between two valve seats for the hot and cold water. The thermostat and the valve element are biased towards the temp. selector via a return spring (33). The thermostat and valve element together with a guide sleeve (34) form a single unit sealed in a head piece (35) fitted into the mixer tap housing with an axially limited displacement. The resetting spring lies adjacent the guide sleeve out of contact with the water flow. Pref. the guide sleeve is held and sealed by a sealing ring (341) inserted in a slot (351) in the head piece.
