A security device, attached to a trolley, comprises a mechanism by means of which the trolley can be releasably secured to others. When a coin of a predetermined denomination is inserted in the upper slot (9) of the device, it is retained and, simultaneously, the trolley is detached from the hitching part (21) of the neighbouring trolley. The upper slot (9) prevents the admission of larger coins and the lower slot (10) enables the smaller coins to be ejected without operating the device. Conversely, when the coin is to be retrieved, the hitching ring (21) of the neighbouring trolley is inserted into the device, so re-securing the trolley to others. <IMAGE>
