PURPOSE:To prevent performance deterioration caused by reaction with moisture by making dense the surface, which is in contact with gas containing moisture, of electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A solid electrolyte is formed by bonding surface electrolytes 2, 3 on both sides of an inner electrolyte 1. The surface electrolytes 2, 3 are CeO2 or ZrO2 family compound obtained from solid solution of two or three valent oxide of alkali earth elements except calcium or rare earth elements. The surface electrolytes 2, 3 do not react with moisture since they contain no calcium oxide, and the moisture cannot penetrate into the inner electrolyte since they are dense. Therefore, calcium oxide which is contained as solid solution in the inner electrolyte is not consumed. When CeO2-CaO or ZrO2-CaO family compound is used as the inner electrolyte 1, performance deterioration is prevented. Even when the surface electrolyte is bonded on only the anode side, almost the same effect can be obtained. |
