<p>The invention relates to a data communication apparatus as well as a card to be used with such an apparatus. This apparatus comprises means (3) for reading a certain number of function codes (16) formed on a card (15), each of these function codes (16) being formed at a different position on the said card (15), memory means (12) for storage of data at one or more groups of addresses, each of these groups of addresses including one or more addresses (19), each of these said addresses corresponding to one of the function codes (16) means (4) for displaying data, for displaying stored data of one or more of the groups of addresses, this apparatus being characterised in that the physical relationship between the said read means (3) and the said card (15) is capable of being modified in order to allow the said read means (3) separately to read each of the said function codes (16).
