To connect the cylinder tube (1) of a hydraulic cylinder to the base (6) on the one side and the cover (8) on the other side, groove-shaped recesses (16, 17) are provided at the cover (8) and base (6). The ends (5, 7) of the cylinder tube (1) are pressed into the recesses (16, 17) while being permanently deformed. In order to enable higher operating pressures to be applied, a neck (26) is provided at the ends of the non-deformed cylinder tube (1) in the area (25) of the inner end of each holding area (18, 19) with respect to the longitudinal extent of the cylinder tube (1).
