A cutting bench for supporting a metal plate during cutting and for extracting gases formed during cutting downwards, is provided with a sub-frame and a receptacle supported by the latter. This receptacle has an at least approximately planar top peripheral edge and an extraction opening for connection to an extraction installation. According to the invention, the receptacle is provided with at least two parts which can be displaced with respect to one another, in such a manner that it is possible to alter the surface area delimited by the top peripheral edge.
