The present invention relates to an automated storage system comprising a frame member including a surface (10) and a plurality of openings (11a) extending through the surface, a plurality of storage cells (15) located on one side of the surface, each storage cell being accessible through one of the openings in the surface and being adapted to contain a storage device (8, 9), at least one storage handling device (7, 16) capable of handling a storage device mounted therein, and at least one accessor (6) for transferring data storage devices between the storage handling device and the storage cells.
