A pressurized water reactor plant comprises a reactor vessel (1), a horizontal steam generator (10) including U-shaped heat transfer tubes, a reactor coolant pump (5), and coolant pipes (2, 4, 8) providing fluid communication therebetween, wherein the horizontal steam generator (10), the reactor coolant pump (5) and the coolant pipes (2, 4, 6) are arranged above the uppermost end of the nuclear core (7) within the reactor vessel (1). The arrangement provides decay heat removal in the event of pump failure or a loss of coolant accident. The steam generator (10) (figure 4, not shown) includes a series of U-shaped tubes (15) extending between hot and cold water chambers (13a, 13b), the hot chamber being higher than the cold chamber. The tubes are supported by plates (20, 21) which form separate regions (16, 17) for the bent and straight portions (15a, 15b) of the tubes. A moisture separator (27) feeds water into, and a blowdown line (26) extracts water from the region (16) for the bent portions (15a) of the tubes. Anti-vibration means are provided for the bent portions (15a) of the tubes (figures 7, 8, not shown). <IMAGE>
