PURPOSE:To obtain a new phenolic compound useful as various kinds of organic industrial chemicals, various kinds of organic functional materials or these intermediates. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic compound of formula I (R is aralkyl; X is 5-14C cycloalkylidene, 1,1-ethylidene, 1,2-ethylene, 1,1-propylidene, 1,1-butylidene, 2,2- butylidene, 4-methyl-2,2-pentylidene, phenylmethylene or 1-phenyl-1,1-ethylidene; Z1 to Z4 are H, halogen or 1-4C alkyl), e.g. 1-(4'-benzyloxyphenyl)-1-(4''- hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane. The compound of formula I, e.g. the exemplified compound is obtained by reacting 1,1-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane with a benzyl halide in the presence of a base. Furthermore, in the compound of formula I, especially a compound of formula II is particularly preferable. |
