PURPOSE:To increase transfer density and to prevent blurring of image by adding a coloring matter having a desorption group to be substituted for an active hydrogen compound in an image receiving layer through thermal transition into a coloring matter layer and adding an active hydrogen compound into an image receiving layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer material is composed of a coloring matter donative material having a coloring matter layer on a support and an image receiving material having an image receiving layer on the support. The coloring matter layer in the thermal transfer material contains a coloring matter having a desorption group to be substituted for an active hydrogen compound in the image receiving layer through thermal transition while the image receiving layer contains the active hydrogen compound. According to the composition, a thermal transfer material having high transfer density and causing no blurring of image can be obtained.
