<p>PURPOSE: To provide a flame retardant plastic article containing a core of a plastic polymeric material coated with a protective, flame retardant layer. CONSTITUTION: This is a new plastic article which is made by coating a core of a plastic polymeric material (thermo-plastic, thermosetting, rigid foam or semi-flexible foam polymeric material) with a protective, flame retardant layer comprising a mixture of a flame retardant, char forming and intumescent systems. The new article is suitable for manufacturing e.g. rods, beams, pipes, hoses, non-tubular profiles and panels useful in various industries such as the building, automobile and mining industries.</p> |
