<p>PURPOSE: To provide an electric arc furnace which can execute a particularly high energy input at a low cost of installation, a low operating cost, and a low maintenance cost. CONSTITUTION: In an electric arc furnace which produces steel by melting scrap 27, in particular, iron scrap, and/or sponge iron and/or pig iron as well as flux in furnace vessels 1, 30 by using at least one graphite electrode 11 which projects into the furnace vessel in a state where the electrode 11 can be moved in the longitudinal direction, an electric arc 26 is ignited between the electrode 11 and the charging stock 27. In order to achieve a particularly high energy input, the electrode 11 projects into a lower part 8 of the furnace vessels 1, 30 from aside and the lower part 8 has an expanded section radially protruding outward in the radial direction relative to the upper part 10 of the vessels 1, 30.</p> |
