NEW MATERIAL:Pyridine salt of D-alpha-[5,8-dihydro-2-(4-formyl-1-piperazinyl)-5- oxo-pyrido[2,3-d]-pyrimidine-6-carboxamido]-p-hydroxybenzylpenicillin represented by formula I. USE:Intermediate for the purification of the penicillin derivative of formula I which is a known antibacteria agent for non-oral administration and effective to gram- positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The penicillin needs to be high purity for the non-oral administration, especially intravenous administration. Conversion of the penicillin to the pyridine salt improves its crystallinity and facilitates the purification. PROCESS:The pyridine salt of the penicillin of formula I can be prepared by reacting a carboxylic acid of formula II or its reactive derivative with amoxycillin or its derivative in the presence of pyridine. |
