<p>PURPOSE: To improve comfort of a vehicle and reduce wear of an engine and components associated therewith by controlling engine torque, particularly during a gear change. CONSTITUTION: In a torque control method and apparatus, a transmission control module (10) is adapted to determine start and end times for torque control on the basis of a plurality of search tables stored in memory which are accessed via one or more engine operating conditions determined from a plurality of sensors. The contents of the search tables are determined experimentally to give the most appropriate start and end times for the given conditions, and not on the basis of any mathematical formula.</p> |
