<p>PURPOSE:To obtain granular uranium peroxide with good filterability and washability, relatively large in granular size by adding nitric acid to an uranyl nitrate solution followed by addition of hydrogen peroxide where nitric acid concentration and the amount of the hydrogen peroxide to be added are specified respectively. CONSTITUTION:When the concentration of nitric acid in an uranyl nitrate solution is <1N in process 11, nitric acid is added to the solution; when >3N, either addition of an alkali such as NaOH to the solution or denitration with formic acid and formaldehyde is carried out to regulate the nitric acid concentration at 1 to 3N to form a 1-3N uranyl nitrate solution. In process 12, this uranyl nitrate solution is incorporated with hydrogen peroxide at a level of 8-16 molar times the uranium contained in the solution to precipitate granular uranium peroxide which is then separated. With this method, the objective granular uranium peroxide can be recovered in high efficiency.</p> |
