PURPOSE:To enable automatic selection of the optimum shift step and manual shift thereof by providing a friction engaging element assembled in a planetry gear, a shifting lever for setting a manual or an automatic shifting position, and an electronic control unit for controlling pressure oil supply and discharge by a running condition detecting mean and the signal of a shift lever. CONSTITUTION:In the case when a shift lever 62 is set selectively in an automatic shifting position by operation of a driver, an electronic control unit 63 selects the optimum shift step based on the travelling speed of a vehicle and stepping distance of an accelerator pedal, and controls selective pressure oil supply and discharge for a friction engaging element corresponding to the optimum shift step, so as to achieve a determined shift step. In the case when the shift lever 62 is set selectively in a manual shift position, the electronic control unit 63, controls selective pressure oil supply and discharge for the friction engaging element in response to a pointed shift step to achieve a determined shift step so as to achieve a shift step pointed by the driver at the manual shift position. And then, the optimum shift step can be selected automatically according to a driving condition and at the same time a manual shift can be achieved, if necessary. |
