发明名称 METHOD FOR PRODUCING METAL CARBIDE HAVING LARGE SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA UNDER ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE INERT GAS SCAVENGING
摘要 PURPOSE: To enhance productivity and to reduce a cost by heating a reaction mixture to a prescribed temperature under the scavenging effect of inert gas to reduce a volatile metal compound with carbon, cooling the resulted carbide in the presence of the inert gas and recovering the carbide. CONSTITUTION: A reaction furnace comprises a furnace body A as well as an auxiliary device, an upstream starting material accepting section B and a downstream final product recovering section C. The reaction mixture composed of the carbon of >=200 m/g of the specific surface area approximate to a stoichiometric coefficient and the compound which is volatile under reaction conditions of the metal of producing the carbon is brought into contact within the reaction furnace and the reaction mixture is scavenged by the inert gaseous flow. The reaction mixture is thus heated too 900 to 1400 deg.C under the inert gas scavenging effect to a temperature sufficient for carbonizing the reduction product in the final to reduce the volatile metal compound by the carbon. The resulted carbide is cooled down to the temperature at which the carbide does not oxidize in spite of the contact with the air in the presence of the inert gas. The carbide is recovered from the reaction furnace.
