Method of removing sulphur from the waste gases of coal boilers, in particular those with a mechanical stoker, based on a dry calcium method, where sulphur dioxide is bound in the combustion chamber of the boiler by means of the introduction into that chamber of an additive with a carrying agent in the form of air or air with the addition of recirculated waste gases, characterized in that calciferous waste from soda plants is used as an additive, in a quantity which ensures a Ca:S molar ratio in the range 1.2:1 to 1.8:1.
