<p>PURPOSE:To simply obtain the subject compound important as a medicine in a high production by subjecting a cell of a plant which produces a tropane alkaloid to tissue culture in a culture medium to which a DNA methylation inhibitor is added. CONSTITUTION:A cultured cell or tissue of a plant which produces a tropane alkaloid (e.g. Duboisia myoporoides) is subjected to tissue culture in a tissue culture medium to which a DNA methylation inhibitor is added, preferably at 23-28 deg.C and then the objective compound such as scopolamine is collected from the cultured product. The DNA methylation inhibitor includes e.g. 5- azacytidine or 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine. The inhibitor is preferably added so that the concentration of the culture medium may be 10-30 mg/l after 14 days from the time when culture is started. Furthermore, as the culture medium, a liquid medium prepared using a Murashige & Skoog medium is preferably used.</p> |
