An aqueous thixotropic liquid composition which consists of water, a thixotropic thickener, a means for increasing the physical stability of the composition, chlorine-based bleaching agent and detergent structuring agent. The said composition contains alkali metal and alkaline-earth metal components in a sufficient quantity to give a pH of at least 11.2 when approximately 10 grams of the composition is added to 1 litre of water. The composition offers better rheological behaviour and also better physical stability, leaving only a slight residue in the bottle and also having a novel aesthetic effect on account of its translucent appearance.
