Wear of the strainer bars and/or screw segments in a screw press is monitored by measuring the current taken by the screw drive motor 9 and measuring the pressures in at least three areas 1, 2, 3 in respective thirds of the length of the strainer cage. The measured values are displayed (6, 8) and fed into computer 7 which compares them with starting or reference values. The wear results in a shift along the cage of the point where pressure is highest and a fall in the maximum pressure relative to motor current. The computer indicates this condition, and the strainer bars and/or screw segments are then replaced. <IMAGE> |
