APPARATUS WITH HORIZONTALLY ANISOTROPIC OPTICAL FIBER AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE: To provide an end part fixing device for a polarization maintaining optical fiber which specially matches the purpose of coupling a laser diode and the polarization maintaining optical fiber through an optical isolator. CONSTITUTION: Light emitted by the laser diode has a plane of polarization normally slanting at 45 deg. to a horizontal plane after passing through the optical isolator, so the polarization maintaining optical fiber 10 is fixed in the center of a fixture 16 which is sectioned in a square shape so that a polarization plane preferential surface 14 is perpendicular to a support surface 17. Then the fixture 16 is fixed to a receptacle 20 so that support surfaces 17 and 19 of the fixture 16 come into contact with receiving surfaces 22 and 24 slanting at 45 deg. to the free surface 32 of the receptacle 20 and the projection 18 of the fixture 16 faces the recessed part 26 of the receptor 20, so that laser light which is converged right on the center of the fixture 16 is made incident on the end surface of the polarization maintaining optical fiber 10 with efficiency.
