<p>PURPOSE: To keep the tension of a magnetic tape by unwinding the tape by a distance sufficient for recovering the allowable level of tape tension after the tape is transferred in the forward direction by a certain distance. CONSTITUTION: The selected tape property changing with the tape tension is monitored, and when it exceeds a predetermined amount, i.e., an amount showing that the tape tension is on a level lower than the satisfactory level, the tape is moved so that a different block begining part such as a block A comes in front of a write/read head, e.g. by performing the longer unwinding operation 17. Thus, the tape 5 is forwarded by the excessive distance corresponding to the space from the begining point of the block A to the ending point of a block D, i.e., the distance selected so as to recover the tape tension up to the desirable level.</p> |
