PURPOSE: To provide the time division multiplex method for a digital optical input signal for obtaining a very high bit speed. CONSTITUTION: A filter F, whose pass wavelength is selected is placed on the way of an optical waveguide LWL in a multiplexer element ME where a signal given to signal input sections SE1, SE2, is switched alternately optically, and an optical output signal is produced at one signal output SA. Then the passing wavelength of the filter F having a multiplex quantization well structure is selected by changing its application voltage, thereby selecting a period of the passing switching time to be shorter than a period of input signal pulses. |
