PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium whose electromagnetic conversion characteristic is good and to provide the magnetic recording medium wherein its edge damage due to a repeated traveling operation is small and its traveling durability is excellent. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic recording medium, a lower-layer nonmagnetic layer in which a nonmagnetic powder has been dispersed in a bonding agent is formed on a nonmagnetic support body, and an upper-layer magnetic layer in which a ferromagnetic powder has been dispersed in a bonding agent while said lower-layer nonmagnetic layer is in a wet state is formed on it. In the magnetic recording medium, the average thickness of said upperlayer magnetic layer is set at 1.0mum or lower. In addition, the magnetic recording medium is featured in such a way that the nonmagnetic powder contained in the lower- layer magnetic layer contains the following: a granular inorganic powder (A) whose average particle size is 0.01 to 0.08mum; carbon black (B) whose average particle size is 0.01 to 0.04mum; and a third component powder (C) which is coarser than said (A) and (B). |
