The device comprises a plastic bag 1 which is open on its lower edge 2. Inside the bag 1 are arranged the triangular arms 6 of tongs 5, the lower bases 7 of which arms are each accommodated in a hem 8 of the lower edge. This hem 8 also contains, over the entire periphery of the edge 2, an elastic rubber band 9. A handle 10 for actuating the tongs 5 projects from the upper edge 3 of the container. Actuation of the handle 10 opens the bag 1 whose opening covers the material to be collected. Releasing the handle causes the bases 7 to come together, push the material into the bag 1 and simultaneously close the bag in a leaktight manner. The device applies to the collection of products without direct contact with the fingers, especially animal excrement. <IMAGE>
