<p>PURPOSE: To simplify access to each of plural menu items by a user by displaying one group of the menu items in the form of one graphical metaphor (icon ring) for the group in a data processing system. CONSTITUTION: A user interface in a system generates a window 36 related to an application program in execution on a display screen 20. Plural menu items related to the application program are displayed by an icon 50, those icons are sequenced, arrayed in a stack state, and displayed on an icon ring 48 in the window 36. The icon at the uppermost part can be selected, and the icon at the uppermost part is moved to the lowermost part and the other icons are successively moved to the upper part by the operation of a mouse or the like so that the icon newly positioned at the uppermost part can be selected.</p> |
