Commutating constant voltage circuit breaker - blocks flow of commutator current from commutator circuit to load in unloaded open operating condition

The circuit breaker has a commutator circuit (2, 3, 4) connected in parallel with a main contact (1). The latter (1) is connected between a constant voltage supply (11) and a load (12). The commutator circuit (2, 3, 4) has a capacitor (2), an inductor (3) and a switch (4) connected in series and a power absorption device (5) connected in parallel. The circuit breaker (7) prevents a commutator current flowing from the commutator circuit (2, 3, 4) to the load (5) in open operation. The circuit breaker is connected between the load (5) and a terminal node (P) between the main contact (1) and the commutator circuit (2, 3, 4). This is opened at the same time as the main contact (1) or before the commutator switch (4) closes. ADVANTAGE - Protects load in open operation more reliably.
